No Cause for Alarm (2022). (Duration 5m 0s)

NIC/NS/003

This audio piece uses an earlier version of the Sellafield alarm familiarisation recording to the one featured in Safety Training but this time the words have been deliberately obscured through a process of sonic obfuscation. Overlayed with this recording is the voice of a Sellafield site manager which takes on the repetitive role of a ‘verbal’ alarm or warning message. In some of the most highly dangerous buildings on the Sellafield site, in terms of the waste they contain, continuous background alarms operate in the form of regular beeps which are designed to function as “confidence tones” to demonstrate the actual alarm systems will work, if and when required.
